Driver, passenger die in horrific Pretoria west tunnel crash
The two deceased were found outside the vehicle and are believed to have been flung out due to the impact of the collision.
Two people died in a collision involving two light motor vehicles at the Daspoort tunnel in the west of Pretoria in the early hours of Saturday.
The incident, which paramedics described as a horrific scene, happened on the northern side of the tunnel on Transoranje Road, shortly after 03:00.
Two men, believed to be in their late 20s, who were travelling in a maroon Nissan Micra, were pronounced dead by Best Care paramedics that responded to the scene.

Bestcare’s Margot van Rooyen said the medics found the deceased outside the vehicle, adding that, “It looks as if the deceased were flung from their vehicle” (due to the impact of the collision).
The driver of an Audi, that was also involved, Nicklaas Janse van Rensburg (32), sustained minor injuries and was taken to a nearby hospital.

Speaking to Rekord, Janse van Rensburg’s brother, Johan, said his brother told him he suspected that the driver of the Micra lost control of the vehicle and while trying to get back on track, collided with the Audi from the front.
On his brother’s condition, Johan said by Saturday morning his brother did not look as though he would need surgery.
“The sustained injuries are not believed to be life-threatening,” he said.

There was traffic disruption at the Daspoort tunnel for five hours.
Spokesperson Captain Bonginkosi Msimango of Hercules police station, speaking to Rekord, said by Saturday 09:00 the scene was cleared.
“Officers were called to the accident scene where two men were declared dead. The scene has been cleared and is open to road users,” he said.
Msimango said the police are investigating the incident.
