Metro certifies 200 homeowners
The move is part of a drive to secure ownership for qualifying residents.
The Tshwane metro’s department of human settlements handed out 200 title deeds to residents in Extension 7, Atteridgeville on Tuesday.
This was part of a drive to provide secure low-cost houses to qualifying residents.
The department provides low-income earners in the metro with adequate, safe, and affordable accommodation, administered transparently under good governance.
The official handing-over ceremony was attended by MMC for Human Settlements, Abel Tau, among other dignitaries.
Tau blamed being unable to track the candidates for the deeds as the reason for the delay.
“The department has previously experienced challenges with reaching beneficiaries to collect their deeds because of several reasons, including changing contact details without notifying municipal offices.
“This has led to beneficiaries waiting for a long time to receive their deeds,” said Tau.
The metro began issuing call letters to the candidates to ensure they receive this important property ownership document.
“From the beginning of my tenure as human settlements MMC, I have upheld a policy that seeks to prioritise the urgent modernisation of our housing provision system, which is necessary to accelerate the transfer of title deeds.”
The metro reminds residents that the handing over title deeds remains an ongoing process, vows that the multiparty administration is committed to issuing the remaining deeds to beneficiaries and continuing to provide affordable housing solutions to qualifying beneficiaries.
Mayor Randall Williams commended the efforts made by the metro, stating in a social media post that “the City of Tshwane is continuing with its programme to issue title deeds and affirm property rights”.
Tau urges residents that are not sure about their deed status to visit their local municipal office to confirm their status or apply if interested.
