Sundowns Ladies score a century of goals in the league

Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies have successfully defended the Hollywoodbets Super League with four games left to play.

Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies have made history and set a record that might be hard to break after scoring a century of goals in the Hollywoodbets Super League.

The Brazilians were victorious over Coal City Wizards 9-0 on Wednesday at Lucas Muripe Stadium to register 104 goals in the league with four games to go to the end of the season.

Head coach Jerry Tshabalala said scoring 104 goals in the league is not something new to them because they once scored 128 in the Sasol League.

“We are a team that likes scoring more goals and I think we can still surpass this record again next season, it only depends on us finding our form quickly,” he said.

He said they could have scored 18 goals against Wizards.

“We are a team that creates a lot of scoring opportunities. I think Wednesday’s results were inspired by what we did in training. I told our players that we can set our own records,” he said.

Tshabalala said he can declare that they’ve successfully defended their title following Wednesday’s result.

“The league is done. We can declare that we are the champions after First Touch Ladies beat JVW FC 2-1. There’s no way they can reach 70 points. We already have 70 points so we can just declare it,” he said.

Masandawana ladies won 23 of 26 matches played, lost two matches with one draw.

They only conceded 11 goals for a mouth-watering plus-93 goals difference.

Although the defending champions proved their dominance in the league thus far, Tshabalala said they’ve had a tough season.

“It wasn’t an easy season for us. We lost a few games. UWC and TUT beat us but the good thing about it is that we managed to pick ourselves up and kept our heads up to collect maximum points in the other games,” he said.
