Weekend operation a success as over 500 suspects were detained in Tshwane

Collaboration with other law enforcement agencies has helped the District to arrest over 500 suspects.

The Tshwane District police seized eight unlicensed firearms and detained over 500 suspects for various offences during police operations this weekend.

Acting District Commissioner, Brigadier Samuel Thine, said the eight unlicensed firearms and pieces of ammunition confiscated will be subjected to ballistic testing to determine whether they were used in any other offences.

“During several operations within the district, four stolen and hijacked vehicles were seized and the suspects were charged with possession of alleged stolen vehicles,” he said.

The collaboration with other law enforcement agencies has helped the District to arrest over 500 suspects, of which 263 were arrested during the tracing of wanted suspects, included 101 related to gender-based violence.

These weekend operations included the following;

• Pretoria Central SAPS conducted a joint By-Laws operation in Marabastad, where shops were inspected and 13 shops’ goods were confiscated at an estimated value of R120 000.

• In Mabopane and Loate during a high-density operation, four suspects were apprehended for dealing in drugs. Dagga and heroin were seized and 36 undocumented people were detained for further processing by the Department of Home Affairs.

• Furthermore, 15 liquor outlets were closed down for contravention of the Liquor Act.

People detained for drug-related crimes totalled 25, another 31 were held for driving under the influence of alcohol, and 43 for drinking alcohol in public areas.
Thine applauded senior officers and junior members for the excellent work done, and for removing illegal firearms from the streets of Tshwane.
He also thanked various law enforcers for fulfilling their continuous obligation to ensure that the residents of Tshwane are safe.
