Firefighters were called to the SA Army College on Hendrik Alberts Rd, Thaba Tshwane, Centurion, after a fire broke out in a storage facility on campus.
EMS Spokesperson Charles Mabaso said emergency services from Tshwane as well as the defence force managed to contain the fire and protect nearby buildings that were under threat.
“At this point no injuries have been reported as a result of the fire and the fire is under control,” he said.
Residents are reminded that all fire emergencies can be reported at:
The Tshwane metro Call Centre 012 358 9999 option 1 or 080 1111 556 option 1, followed by option 1.
When reporting a fire it is important that you give the relevant information:
• Speak clearly.
• Give the right street name and number and, if possible, the nearest intersection.
• Say in which suburb the fire is (eg Thaba Tshwane, Sunnyside, Atteridgeville).
• Very important: say what is burning.
• Leave your telephone number so that the fire brigade can phone you back if they need more information.
Residents are advised to contact the call centre directly and not through third parties such as security companies.
“While we note that some residents have confidence and trust in these companies, and that some of them advise that they have fire safety services, only the fire brigade has the required competence in fire fighting.
“Contacting the emergency services directly will ensure the direct conveyance of accurate information and will help to reduce response times,” said Mabaso.
