REMINDER: Fuel price hike tomorrow

From Wednesday, motorists will be paying more at the pump due to a weaker rand, and factors including importation costs and the cost of crude oil.

Petrol prices will rise by 51c for 95 and 93 ULP, while diesel will rise by R1.42 and R1.43 for 50ppm and 500ppm respectively.

Wholesale paraffin will increase by 77c and LP Gas will decrease by 98c.

This means ULP 95 in Gauteng will cost R22.87 per litre, up from R22.36; ULP 93 will cost R22.57, up from R22.06; 50ppm Diesel will cost R25.73, up from R24.31; and 500ppm Diesel will cost R25.49 up from R24.06.

The Department of Mineral Resources and Energy said that the price increases are due to local and international factors, including importation costs and the crude oil price, which increased by $2.62 per barrel.

The department said that the weaker rand, which lost 56c to the USD in the period under review led to higher contributions to the Basic Fuel Prices.

Since lows in January, fuel prices continue stay above R20 per litre.
