“Don’t wait until the last minute to study for your tests,” a matric top performer advised grade 12 learners.
“Don’t wait until the last minute to study for your tests,” a matric top performer advised grade 12 learners.
Andila Mashabane was one of the bright stars of last year’s matric crop and was crowned the overall top learner in the Tshwane north district with a 92.3% average.
The former Remabele secondary school learner passed accounting with 100%, physics (98%), mathematics (91.6%), life sciences (91.3%), English (88%), Setswama (85%) and life orientation (75%).
“Only studying at the last minute is a recipe for disaster,” Mashabane said.
“Learners who work hard at their studies right from the beginning until the end of the year will be in a better position to do well in their matric exam

She is a determined young lady for whom a bright future beckons.
“Working hard the whole year helped me pass matric with high marks.”
She said she felt good to be a top achiever.
“Being a top achiever makes me feel like a star – it is an amazing experience.”
She said being a top achiever proved to her that she could do anything “difficult” as long as she put her mind to it.
“I have always been a top learner in the class since primary school. This is my thing, this is how I roll,” she said, smiling.
She said her dream was to become a doctor.
“I want to be a neurosurgeon.”
Mashabane is currently studying towards her MBChB (medicine) at the University of Pretoria.
“It is a six-year degree. After I complete it, I will have to do a year of internship and a year of community service to get my licence to be a professional doctor.”
She said she would then have to further study for another six years specialising in neurosurgery.
“In total, I will have to work hard for 14 years to get where I want to be.”
Tshwane can be proud of her, and we will be looking out for her in future.
