The Tshwane flying squad recovered two hijacked vehicles, as well as ammunition and firearms estimated at R90 000 from a house in Doornpoort ext 3 north of Pretoria recently.

A tracking company had reported to the police that it had traced a stolen red Audi to a house in the north where it had also found a blue BMW reported hijacked in Pretoria West as well as ammunition and firearms .

“When police officers arrived, they were told that the suspects shot at the members of the car-tracking company who arrived on the scene before the police,” said police spokesperson Sergeant Alfred Legodi.

The suspects then fled the scene in a white Ford Ranger.

“The Audi had a false number plate.

“The officers opened the Audi’s boot and found rifles and explosives. We had to call the bomb disposal team to disarm two.”

Among the rifles were three AK-47s with a total of 263 bullets, two Dashprods with 176 bullets and an R1 with 59.

“Inside the vehicle, we found a police radio under the armrest.”

He said, in the house, police found
– 12 boxes each with 100 Sellier & Bellot bullets
– 23 boxes each with 20 bullets
– a 9mm pistol with coil spring under the couch in the TV room and
– a black bag with 13 9mm bullets.
