Tshwane police arrest 369 suspects in one day

Tshwane police arrested 369 suspects for various crimes in Cullinan and Ekangala.

Tshwane police arrested 369 suspects for various crimes in Cullinan and Ekangala.

The multi-disciplinary crime prevention operation was conducted on Wednesday and continued into the early hours of Thursday morning.

Warrant-Officer Johan van Dyk, speaking on behalf of the police, said part of the operation was to check that establishments were compliant with the rules of trade, patrol crime hotspots and also raid liquor establishments that were not licensed.

“Today’s operation included high visibility patrols in crime hotspots, compliance inspections and raiding of illegal liquor outlets.

“Tshwane detective teams arrested 351 suspects for various crimes which include five for attempted murder, four for armed robberies, seven for rape, and 117 for gender-based violence.”

He revealed that 11 liquor outlets were inspected, resulting in one being closed down for contravention of the liquor act, while 18 undocumented immigrants were detained and 148 Aarto fines to the value of R97 500 were issued.

According to Van Dyk, 672 people and 359 vehicles were searched during a multi-disciplinary roadblock.

He said the successful operation was due to the police commitment to fighting and combatting crime in Tshwane as a whole.

Van Dyk said that all this was possible due to the support and leadership of district commissioner, Major-General Azwinndini Nengovhela who deployed the team of dedicated integrated forces on the ground.
