Local stakeholders partner to uplift central “food-preneurs”

Persntge Brands and Yulu Fresh have recently launched a campaign aimed at promoting start-up food-preneurs in the Tshwane metro.
Persntge Brands (pronounced percentage) say that the #FoodpreneurConnect campaign will give a platform to young professionals venturing into the food business, and applicants can expect a lot of support should they be selected.
“We wanted to bring something more practical and unique than what’s currently available in start-up entrepreneurial development programmes,” said Persntge founder and chief executive, Phumulani Mngomezulu.
“Through this important partnership, we can help start-up entrepreneurs to really go to market and test out their products/concepts in front of real customers. Through that process, we will show them how to use the platform to build go-to-market strategies that are purpose- and community-led,” Mngomezulu stated.
The campaign runs from March until November 30.
Persntge and Yulu Fresh will select the entrepreneurs that they believe are the right fit and are aligned to partner with the Yulu Fresh brand and strategy.
“Most programmes today are usually just a bunch of generic workshops and talk shops on how to do this and so on. But we believe that when a business is at startup level, all it needs to grow is a platform with customers who are ready to pay and a proper go-to-market strategy to entice those customers,” Mngomezulu asserted.
Each month, one food-preneur will be selected and awarded the opportunity to reap the benefits of the campaign. Some of the amenities available to the food-prenuer of the month include:
– Access to markets (Yulu Fresh Restaurant customers and clientele)
– Access to the Yulu Fresh supply chain (entrepreneurs can also become suppliers to Yulu Fresh)
– Access to the Yulu Fresh staff and infrastructure
– Marketing support and education. Persntge provides marketing and branding support and educational resources that will help the food-preneur to understand how to package and market their brand to appeal to food customers.
“We will promote one a month because it helps us to properly focus on the entrepreneur to ensure that they receive the necessary support and attention from everyone at Persntge and Yulu Fresh during the month to succeed in the programme,” Mgnomezulu explained.
Persntge says that after this initial campaign ends in November, they plan to continue in 2024, hopefully attracting more partners and spreading the campaign across Gauteng.
The selection process includes the submission of a portfolio, product samples, as well as a panel interview with Persntge and Yulu Fresh. Entrepreneurs who are interested to enquire or apply can send an email to hello@persntge.co.za or call 081 4222 834.
