Wollies Animal Shelter filled to the brim

"We have sadly reached the point that we have to turn away animals."

The Wollies Animal Shelter in the north of Pretoria has reached full capacity and asked animal lovers to please foster and adopt animals.

“We have sadly reached the point that we have to turn away animals, which we seldom do but this time we had no option but to make the heartbreaking decision,” said Wollies director Charmaine Swanepoel.

Swanepoel called on animal lovers who are in a position to open their homes for the animals in need.

“We have a great variety from small to large dogs and cats with beautiful natures and personalities that do not belong in a shelter but with a family who will enjoy them.”

The shelter feeds over 1 000 animals daily and recently shared their need for more food donations inspiring a group from the north to make the Wollies shelter the beneficiaries of their first Fill the Bowl project.

The group donated half a ton worth of food to the shelter.

Cordney Baird, who is part of the project, said that they always wanted to help and this time they put action into words.

“As a proud owner of a Wollies dog, I thought it would be a good idea to start with them as they needed food.”

The four contributors to the project were hard at work collecting food from their respective places of work, school and home to reach their goal.

In just over a month and a half, they could deliver the food.

“The project was a success and we will continue helping animals. I will continue to do so but first I have to do my research on how I can help.”
