Store destroyed in late night building fire
A large electronics store at Oriental City in Rooihuiskraal was “totally destroyed”.
A large electronics store at a centre on the Old Johannesburg road was “totally destroyed” in a fire on Wednesday night.
The fire broke out at Oriental City on the corner of Sarel Baard and Old Johannesburg roads in Rooihuiskraal around 22:00.
Local paramedic service Cert-SA was on the scene and said no one was harmed in the incident.
“When we arrived, we found a large electronics store fully engulfed in flames and that part of the roof had already collapsed,” said Cert-SA spokesperson Ruan Heyns.
“Fortunately, the fire was contained to the one store in the shopping complex.”
Heyns said that emergency service workers were on the scene until 01:30 when the scene was stabilised.
Tshwane emergency services spokesperson deputy-chief Charles Mabaso confirmed that firefighters managed to extinguish the fire and that investigations into the incident would be conducted by law enforcement agencies.
He said that it was unclear what the cause of the fire was at this stage, and the extent of the damage was not yet quantifiable.
