Police operation, O kae molao, continued to successfully deal crime a blow in the Moot and Sunnyside on Thursday.
The multiple disciplinary operation led by Major General Azwinndini Nengovhela concentrated its patrols in these areas known for their high rates of crime and netted a total of 320 suspects.
Spokesperson Sergeant Sam Shibambo said police put up roadblocks and stop-and-searches looking for illegal substances, illicit firearms and other illicit goods.
A total of 534 people were searched and 1 056 vehicles scanned to ensure they had not being reported stolen or involved in the commission of a crime elsewhere.
He said 201 vehicles were searched and 123 fines valued at R49 200 were issued to motorists for contravention of various road traffic offences.
“The detectives in Tshwane apprehended 256 suspects for crimes such as armed robbery, attempted murder, house-breaking and theft.
Many were arrested on charges of common assault and assault with the intention to cause grievous bodily harm,” added Shibambo.
He said 30 undocumented immigrants were apprehended while three people were arrested for drug related offences including selling and possession.
Nengovhela thanked all the officers who participated in the operation for displaying professional conduct during the execution of their duties.
“All the suspects will appear in various courts around the district on Friday,” concluded Shibambo.
