Two killed, four injured after vehicles suffer mechanical issues in Centurion
A motorist was pronounced dead after being knocked down by a vehicle while changing a flat tyre.
Two people died on Saturday in separate incidents as the result of motor-vehicle related accidents.
In one incident a man died on the N14 highway in Centurion on Saturday evening.
It is reported that his vehicle crashed into another broken down vehicle on the N14.
Emer-G-Med Spokesperson Kyle van Reenen said reports from the scene indicated a light motor vehicle had a mechanical breakdown and came to a stop in the middle of the highway.
“A second motorist stopped to assist and unfortunately a third vehicle later crashed into both,” Van Reenen said.
He said one person was declared dead on arrival of medics.
“One male suffered fatal injuries while four others were treated and stabilised on scene before being transported to a nearby hospital for further care.”
According to Tshwane emergency services department spokesperson Charles Mabaso firefighters assisted with the extrication of the deceased patient from under one of the vehicles.
In another incident a motorist was struck and killed while changing a tyre on the R21 near Irene Village mall by another vehicle.
Van Reenen said they responded to the scene also on Saturday evening.
“Reports from the scene indicate that a motorist had stopped to change a flat tyre when he was struck by another vehicle and killed,” Van Reenen told Rekord.
“He was declared dead on arrival of paramedics.”
The police were on the scene of both accidents for further investigations.
