Postbank to launch cardless Sassa payment

Postbank spokesperson said the cardless service will help reduce the queues for card replacement at post office branches.

Citizens on Sassa grants can now withdraw their money even without an ATM card.

Cardless grant payment will help reduce the queues for card replacements at post office branches as there will no longer be the need to collect cards, according to Postbank spokesperson Bonagani Diako.

“This means that Pretoria beneficiaries whose Sassa/Postbank gold cards have expired or have not been collected can still receive their grants at retailers like Shoprite, Usave, Boxer, Pick n Pay and OK,’’ Diako added.

He said to access the cardless service, the grant recipient will have to verify their identity by providing their mobile phone number and then enter their PIN to receive their payment.

Diako said the following steps must be followed when collecting the money without the card:

– bring your cell phone, ID and Sassa/Postbank gold card Pin.

– provide the same to the cashier

– enter your card PIN as requested

– the cashier will give you the amount requested

“Postbank is pleased with this new payment method and will continue to work with Sassa to improve the social grants payments, including Sassa/Postbank gold card replacement processes,” Diako concluded.

The service will be available from the first week of May.
