Woman treated for shock in Soshanguve SPAR fire

“We managed to prevent the fire from spreading to the liquor store.”

A woman has been treated for shock after she survived a fire that ravaged a grocery store in Soshanguve Block H on Friday morning.

Tshwane emergency services spokesperson Charles Mabaso confirmed the incident saying that when his staff arrived at the scene, the woman lay outside after collapsing due to shock.

“There were no other casualties,” Mabaso said.

“Upon our arrival, we experienced challenges coming into the building because of its security systems.”

He said more shops had caught on fire but his staff contained it before it had spread to the liquor store directly behind the SPAR.

“We managed to prevent the fire from spreading to the liquor store,” added the fire chief.

He said members of the police force were also on the scene for further investigations.

Mabaso said the cause of the fire had not yet been established as police were still busy with the investigations.

A resident who spoke with Rekord Obakeng Mothusi said the fire started around 07:00, immediately after the shop opened to customers.
