East collision leaves three injured

One passenger was rescued from the wreckage through the use of the jaws-of-life.

Three people were left injured after a serious motor vehicle collision on the N1 near the Rigel off ramp.

Emer-G-Med paramedic services responded to a serious motor vehicle crash on Saturday afternoon.

Emer-G-Med spokesperson Kyle Van Reenen said three people were left with injuries ranging from moderate to severe.

Van Reenen told Rekord that the cause of the accident was that a light motor vehicle crashed head on into the rear of an articulated vehicle.

He said one passenger was entrapped in the car.

“The Jaws-of-Life were used to cut one of the passengers free from the wreckage.”

He said the patients were transported to various hospitals for further treatment.

“The injured were treated and stabilised on scene before being taken to a nearby hospital for medical attention,” Van Reenen said.

Van Reenen added that the scene was handed over to the police for further investigation.

The police have yet to comment.
