A 28-year-old male driver was arrested by the Gauteng Traffic Police (GTP) for reckless driving on Friday night, May 12, at Bronkhorstspruit.
According to Gauteng traffic police spokesperson Sello Maremane, the speedster is expected to appear in the Bronkhorspruit Magistrates court soon.
“The driver was detained at Bronkhorspruit police station facing charges relating to reckless and negligent driving with an alternative charge of driving in excess of the prescribed speed limit of 120 km per hour,” he said.
Maremane said they would intensify high-speed operations and clampdown on speedsters on Gauteng major routes and freeways.
In a separate incident Rekord recently reported on an incident were the Gauteng traffic police caught a speedster on his motorcycle doing 223 km/h on the N1 in Centurion.
Provincial traffic police spokesperson Sello Maremane said the 22-year-old man was arrested on the spot after being caught recklessly speeding on his motorcycle.
“It is believed the young man told the officers that he was rushing to Krugersdorp for a jolly day.
“He was arrested on the spot and taken to Lyttleton police station, where he was formally charged with reckless and negligent driving as well as an alternative charge of exceeding the general speed limit,” Maremane said.
Maremane urged all law enforcement officers to leave no stone unturned in dealing decisively with those who continue to disregard the rules of the road, thus putting the lives of other road users at risk.
