Bakkie crashes through family’s wall

“Luckily we have a tree on the other side of the wall, otherwise they would have ended up in our bedroom.”

Two men sustained moderate injuries when their bakkie smashed through the wall of a Valhalla residence.

The accident happened at around 09:30 on Sunday morning, shortly after the residents in the house got up for the day.

The double-cab bakkie damaged the boundary wall before hitting a large tree inside the property.

Juanita Veldman was awake with her daughter inside the house when the bakkie smashed through their wall.

Veldman said the two men were on their way to a supermarket to do shopping.

While she was concerned for the men, she said she was thankful that none of her family were hurt in the incident.

“Just the wall and the electric fence were damaged,” she said.

The boundary wall that the bakkie smashed through is near Veldman’s bedroom wall.

“Luckily we have a tree on the other side of the wall,” said Veldman, “Otherwise they would have ended up in our bedroom.

“We were awake, but we were also very shocked.

“Our pets were inside the house with my daughter and I. My husband wasn’t home at the time that the accident happened. So none of us were hurt luckily.”

Veldman said the airbags in the bakkie had deployed, but the men were still injured.

She said that one of the men was taken to a hospital for a head injury.
