Head-on collision claims one in Wierda Park

Two others sustained injuries ranging from moderate to severe and were taken to hospital.

One person was killed and two others injured in an early Sunday morning head-on collision in Wierda Park.

The injuries range from moderate to severe.

The two patients were taken to hospital for further care once medics on the scene had stabilised them.

Just after 02:00, residents near Hendrik Verwoerd Road near Wierda Park in Centurion were awoken by the sound of the collision.

Natalie Loudon posted on social media about the accident saying, “I heard a loud bang”.

In a statement, responding paramedics, Cert-SA said: “In the early hours of Sunday morning, around 02:45, our Centurion crew responded to a motor vehicle collision on Hendrik Verwoerd Road near Wierda Park in Centurion.”

The accident involved a light utility vehicle and a light passenger vehicle, which collided head-on.

Images from the scene show the extent of the damage to the vehicles.

“One person was pronounced dead on the scene while two others sustained injuries ranging from moderate to severe.”

Various emergency services, including Emer-G-Med, Tshwane emergency services, Gauteng emergency services, the SAPS and Tshwane metro police, as well as private security services assisted at the scene, according to Cert-SA.

The exact circumstances surrounding the accident were not yet clear.

Cert-SA said that the police have opened an investigation into the events leading to the accident.
