Mabopane, Ga-Rankuwa water interruptions set for Tuesday
"The upgrade is part of a preventative maintenance programme," says the metro.
Residents in Mabopane and Ga-Rankuwa can expect possible water interruptions this week as Rand Water was expected to replace and upgrade the bulk water meter that supplies the local industrial reservoirs.
The upgrades will take place on Tuesday, June 27 from 08:00 until Wednesday, June 28 at 08:00, about 24 hours.
UPGRADING BULK WATER METERS
Tshwane metro spokesperson Lindela Mashigo said Rand Water is upgrading its bulk water meters as part of a maintenance programme.
“The bulk water meters are upgraded as and when necessary for a maintenance programme or when it is faulty,” Mashigo added.
Mashigo said that currently, there are no complications; the upgrade was part of a preventative maintenance programme.
ACCURATE BILLINGS
The upgrade will help the metro make more accurate billings.
In addition, Mashigo said it is important for the bulk water meters to be upgraded because Rand Water wants to manage water losses, determine water consumption to the city and for accuracy.
Inaccurate bulk metering has a huge impact on revenue and non-revenue water, according to Mashigo.
“There should be little to no impact on the water supply, but if the interruptions last longer than expected, water tankers will be deployed,” Mashigo said
Reservoirs supplied by the meters to be upgraded will be filled before the interruption.
