Local businessman takes sport and education to the next level
The Dlalisa Moyeni Foundation provides boys with the necessary skills and resources to prosper.
The relationship between sports and education is essential to a child’s upbringing as it allows them to focus.
And in pursuit of this, the Dlalisa Moyeni Foundation formally on Thursday afternoon introduced the Dlalisa Moyeni football club of over 100 boys selected from Mamelodi, as well as the team’s playing and training kits.
Foundation founder Bongani Skosana, accompanied by renowned football administrator and leader Ria Ledwaba, made the official introduction and handed over the kits at the central sports ground.
The former footballer said the foundation he founded in 2020 still has a lot of projects lined up, football the most crucial.
“Through the Dlalisa Moyeni football club initiative, the boys will form part of the boy-child mentoring and football programme, which will be coached by footballing legend Thulasizwe Mbuyani (formerly of Orlando Pirates, Bafana Bafana),” said Skosana.
He said the relationship between sport and education is essential to a child’s upbringing as it allows them to focus on academic and social pursuits while learning the benefits of a healthy lifestyle, teamwork and discipline.
Skosana believes sports and football, in particular, can provide the necessary skills and mental aptitude to arm a young man for the demands of life, school and financial literacy.
Themba Masango said the foundation was one of South Africa’s leading grassroots organisations.
“The foundation focuses more on boys and wants to provide a holistic upbringing for them.
“We want boys to understand it’s not just education, but also sport that is involved in the upbringing,” said Masango.
The club has recruited about 120 players for its under-11, 13, 15, 17 and 19 teams and trains every week at the central sports ground.
“We want to make sure the boy child is growing with a girl child and can stand for himself.”
For entertainment, DJ Zinhle kept the young boys on their feet for the rest of the festivities.
