Family of hit-and-run victim still looking for information one year on
Willie Swart was killed in an accident when he was knocked from his motorbike by a red double cab Isuzu bakkie with tinted windows.
The family of a man who was killed in a hit-and-run on the N14 in September last year is still looking for answers.
Willie Swart (54) was killed when a red double cab Isuzu bakkie with dark tinted windows hit his motorbike before fleeing the scene.
“Willie was a hard-working, family-dedicated man, who loved his family fiercely. He was strong-willed and would stand up for those close to him. He is deeply missed,” said his wife, Joy-Anne.

The accident happened between 17:15 and 17:30 on September 7, 2022.
“My husband, the culprit and a witness were coming from the Krugersdorp highway onto the R55,” said Swart told Rekord.
“There was an accident on the left-hand side. My husband moved over to the right-hand lane and the bakkie came at speed and knocked him off his bike.”
A police statement previously said the bakkie changed lanes into oncoming traffic, forcing Willie into action to avoid it.

Joy-Anne said this was not a correct description of the accident.
“Even the police report, claimed that it was an unknown vehicle, but the eyewitness said that it was a red double cab Isuzu bakkie with dark tinted windows.
“By the time the witness stopped and got over to my husband, he said that my husband had already passed away.”
She said she obtained the autopsy report from the investigating officer on Tuesday, September 12.
“I asked if there were any updates, and he said there was ‘nothing’.”
She said that the case was ongoing but there was no lead on who the driver of the red bakkie was.
“The eyewitness, unfortunately, couldn’t get the number plate, he said it happened so quickly. He saw my husband go up in the air and pulled over, but by the time he could look around, the bakkie was gone.
“Forty-five minutes later, he said that he saw the bakkie drive past in the opposite direction. When the driver saw the blanket over my husband he sped away again.”
Wierdabrug police spokesperson Captain Agnes Huma last year asked residents to assist police in finding the culprit by calling Sergeant Mokoena on 082 335 2479 with any information.
She said a culpable homicide case was opened for investigation.
Rekord requested an update from police but none had been received at the time of publication.
