Pet exhibition opens business opportunities for small businesses

The exhibition provided 24 local small businesses with opportunities to showcase their products and services, including grooming, treats and enrichment items.

The owner of Bark Vader Dog School, Michaela Lendowsky, officially opened her first Bark Vader Pet Fair on Saturday at the Nederduitse Gereformeerde Kerk Valleisig in Faerie Glen, east of Pretoria.

More than 400 animal enthusiasts turned out for the event, which had the goal of providing local pet-related small businesses with a venue to display their products.

Lendowsky said the occasion offered small businesses an opportunity to showcase and promote their offerings at a cost that suited their budgets. “It was initially inspired by the pet exhibition at Monte Casino, which is regrettably out of reach for smaller enterprises,” she said, explaining that the newly opened exhibition offers small businesses a fair opportunity to develop further.

The exhibit offered 24 local small businesses an opportunity to show off their products and services, which included grooming, treats, and enrichment items, she said. “The most notable aspect of Bark Vader is that we are a force-free dog school since we do not support using punishment or abusive techniques on animals.” She added that animal welfare was prioritised and that no one sold any goods that were harmful to dogs.

It was revealed that the event served as an educational venture to plan bigger ones in the future. “This is the first of many events to follow. Next year we will do a bigger one,” she said, adding that “the current event is more about seeing and learning from my mistakes.”

She urged residents to look after dogs and do comprehensive research on how to raise them.
