“I can confirm that in the morning we had sold more than 6 000 tickets,” Marketing and Brand Manager Johan Venter told Rekord. According to Venter, the reason people came to the event in such large numbers was that they organised it so that it brought an awesome experience to entertainment enthusiasts.

“We offered them a day during heritage weekend to come together and first enjoy the rugby match between the Springboks and Ireland before being treated to live music.” He added that to make the event memorable, they carefully selected artists to perform based on their popularity.

“Participating artists are the audience’s favourites. It is what we always consider before selecting them.” The artists included the likes of Appel, Demi Lee Moore, Riaan Benade, Jay, Kerlien van Jaarsveld and Bok van Blerk, among others.

The event was the culmination of the nationwide Groot Jol tour, which began at Meerendal in Cape Town on April 1 and moved to ATKV AMFI in Hartenbos on April 8, Nelson Mandela Stadium in Port Elizabeth on April 15, Emerald Resort and Casino in Vanderbijlpark on May 20, Jool Plaas in Potchefstoom on August 5 and recently culminated at the Voortreker Monument in Pretoria.

A member of the audience, Lynette Botha, said she was excited to go out with her daughter and enjoy the music. “Today is the day for fun and excitement,” Botha said.
