Five armed robbers flee Eersterust store

Security officials at the store were handcuffed and luckily no injuries were reported, despite shots being fired.

Five suspects managed to flee the scene of a business robbery at a department store in Eersterust on Thursday morning.

The armed suspects managed to flee on foot, before escaping in three vehicles at the Eersterust Plaza.

SAPS Tshwane spokesperson, Johan van Dyk said that the robbery happened at about 09:00.

“The manager of the Pep Store, two security guards and six staff members were inside the shop performing their duties when five unknown males entered the shop,” Van Dyk told Rekord.

He said the security guards were handcuffed with their own handcuffs.

According to the police report, the manager was taken to the safe where the new cellphones were stored.

The suspects made away with new cellphones and memory cards.

The value of the stolen items was yet to be confirmed.

“Three of the perpetrators were armed with handguns.”

Van Dyk said the perpetrators fled the scene on foot and climbed into three vehicles parked outside the shopping complex on Hans Coverdale West Street.

One of the perpetrators fired shots outside the store, however, Van Dyk confirmed that there were no injuries.
