Soshanguve’s Sandiso Nkabinde excels in matric result

Nkabinde plans on pursuing LLB at the University of Johannesburg

“Submit to God, be disciplined, put in the hard work, be consistent and be resilient. These are very important strategies for acing matric,” says 19-year-old Sandiso Nkabinde.

Nkabinde is one of the top matric achievers of Elizabeth Matsemela Secondary School in Soshanguve.

He obtained five distinctions in Mathematics, English, History, Tourism and Business Studies.

“I submitted all my plans to God, put in the work and then trusted the process. The journey was difficult but it was a matter of resilience and consistency. My dream of becoming one of the top achievers kept me going to a point where quitting was not on my mind. God had my back every step of the way,” He said.

Nkabinde had a good upbringing and was raised by a single mother. He always loved learning from a tender age.

He said before going to Elizabeth Matsemela secondary school he attended a private school but during his Grade 10 he had to leave the school because it became too expensive.

“I couldn’t go to school for some time as it was during the middle of the year.

“I was offered a space at Elizabeth Matsemela and everything started falling into place.”

Nkabinde said during his matric year he had no social life.

“I had put school as my number one priority and all the little time I had was dedicated to studying.”

He said God, his teachers and family had his back in every step of the way.

“Of course, I would not have been able to do it without the support of my family and teachers. One of the teachers who played a prominent role in my academic success was Mrs Majola Mkhwebani.”

He said Mkhwebani became a mother to him and remains so today.

“She always went out of her way just to push me to keep striving, she held my hand and she was very supportive,” Nkabinde said.

He said all the teachers from Elizabeth Matsemela were just superb, that is why he would advise parents to take their children to that school because of the passion and compassion of the teachers.

He said his favourite subject was Mathematics and English.

“I like the challenge that comes with Math because for me every challenge is an opportunity. Maths gives me the ability to provide solutions to problems. As for English, I like how broad and versatile it is in exposing you to a wide variety of opportunities.”

Nkabinde said his next step is to study Law at the University of Johannesburg.

“I plan to go to the University of Johannesburg to study LLB but during my time there I will also pursue other goals. I have always loved challenges and Law is intellectually challenging. I believe that it will give me a chance to actually make a difference in the law spheres of South Africa and eventually the world.”

He advised all matric learners to focus on the first go as a matric year is very short but full of work.

“New matriculants must learn to prioritise, study hard, use all the time to study and seek help if getting lost. Then dedicate yourself to God and pray as much as you can because without God there is no direction.”

He also thanked his out-of-school teacher.

“Clement Chauke is my mentor, he elevated me into a new character with a better understanding of life and played an important role in my life,” he concluded.
