Man arrested for possession of suspected stolen aluminium in Pretoria North

After pursuing the suspect in a high-speed chase, the police recovered aluminium extrusion estimated at R20 000.

A 35-year-old man will appear in the Pretoria North Magistrate’s Court today on charges of reckless and negligent driving and possession of suspected stolen aluminium extrusion weighing 245kg.

According to police spokesperson Warrant-Officer Johan van Dyk, the extrusion is estimated at a value of R20 000.

Van Dyk said while on routine patrol on foot at the Blaauw Village shopping complex, Pretoria North sector police spotted a suspicious-looking Toyota single cab bakkie carrying aluminum extrusion.

“Upon approaching the vehicle, the driver drove off recklessly at high speed.”

Van Dyk said a high-speed chase ensued.

“The Toyota was cornered in Stasie Street and police recovered the bundles of aluminium extrusion.”

He said the driver was immediately detained at the Pretoria North police station.

“An investigation will determine where the aluminium extrusion come from,” said Van Dyk.
