Taxi driver shot and killed in Kameeldrift West shooting

A Taxi driver was shot and killed in traffic in Pretoria on Thursday afternoon.

Police are investigating the murder of a taxi driver who was shot and killed in traffic on Thursday afternoon.

According to Tshwane District Police spokesperson Warrant Officer Johan van Dyk, the driver of a Mercedes Benz Sprinter stopped at a traffic light before attempting to flee from an unknown gunman.

It is believed the taxi driver died from multiple gunshot wounds while attempting to escape his attacker on Thursday.

The shooting happened at the intersection of Van der Hoff Road at the entrance of Mayhem Raceway in Kameeldrift West.

Van Dyk said the driver was shot as he ran from the taxi until he fell about 30 meters behind his vehicle.

“Four cartridges were found on the scene.”

Van Dyk furthermore said that circumstances surrounding the incident were still unclear and that police were investigating a case of murder.
