Stakeholders spruce up Sunnyside pool

Approximately 100 volunteers were involved in painting, weeding and cleaning.

Local partners teamed up recently to give the Sunnyside pool a facelift.

The effort was led by NGO, Asez Wao in collaboration with the metro and other partners. The effort forms part of the start of the Sunnyside upliftment project.

This project targets neglected public spaces in Sunnyside and boosts their image through painting and cleaning so that Sunnyside may become more visually appealing.

The pool, located on the corner of Kotze and Bourke streets, needed its shabby appearance refurbished, according to ward 59 councillor Shaun Wilkinson.

He approached Asez Wao to help carry out the endeavour.

“When Asez Wao comes into an area, they make an impact immediately. They make an impact in the hearts and minds of the people living in the community,” he said.

“I want to just share my love, my gratitude. You guys are special. We love you. We appreciate you. Don’t stop what you’re doing.”

Approximately 100 Asez Wao members, family members and colleagues volunteered to paint, remove weeds and clean for four hours. Volunteers targeted the pool area and the nearby park.

Tshwane provided painting tools and paint for the volunteers.

Wilkinson is also collaborating with the Sunnyside Methodist Church and its partners to open a community clinic in March.
