Villieria motorcycle ‘thief’ arrested

The Tshwane metro police says the same Toyota Hilux has been a target after it was suspected to be involved in multiple motorcycle thefts over the last few months.

The actions of a suspect accused of terrorising motorcyclists in Pretoria appear to have caught up with him.

According to Tshwane metro police Superintendent Isaac Mahamba, the suspect arrested on Tuesday, February 13 had been involved in multiple motorcycle thefts.

“While conducting their duties on Tuesday, the K9 unit of the Tshwane metro police (TMPD) received a tip-off about a blue Toyota Hilux that was involved in the theft of a motorcycle in Villieria, east of Pretoria.”

Mahamba said the local law enforcement followed up and spotted the vehicle as per the complaint.

“They then gave chase and managed to stop the vehicle on the R21 and Nellmapius Drive interchange.

The motorcycle was found under the cover in the back of the Toyota Hilux. The driver was arrested for possession of a stolen motorcycle, a black Kawasaki.”

He said the same Toyota Hilux has been a target after it was suspected to be involved in multiple motorcycle thefts over the last few months.

Mahamba said in a separate incident, the TMPD arrested two men in Ekangala on February 14 for public violence.

“The two were participating in an illegal protest.

“The members spotted them after the protest when they went to the residential area and blocked the roads with burning tyres. They ran when they noticed the officers but were apprehended.

When they searched them, one was in possession of six small bags of dagga.”

He said the two were arrested for public violence, with one facing an additional charge of possession of dagga.
