Tshwane repairs Pretoria east areas hard-hit by recent heavy storm

The situation brought about by hectic weather conditions over the weekend has resulted in a massive service backlog.

Electricity and other Tshwane maintenance crews are targeting areas hit by outages after strong winds and hail fell in parts of Tshwane for repair.

The bad weather uprooted several trees damaging power lines among other structural damage.

“The storm hit parts of the east fairly hard, Pretoria east has seven area outages, while six are smaller block outages. We had shortages of material, such as cherry pickers which we are sourcing from other areas as the outages are vast.

We ask residents to be patient as teams work as quickly as they can.”

Tshwane metro spokesperson Selby Bokaba said Tshwane technicians were hard at work attending to power supply interruptions in various parts of the municipality occasioned by the recent stormy weather.

“The situation has resulted in a massive restoration backlog. To ensure that the backlog is addressed speedily, since this morning, the city has deployed maximum resources to the affected areas.

Technicians were grouped according to areas of deployment to reduce travelling distances between service requests, thus shortening the restoration time.”

He said the metro was committed to ensuring that power was restored to all consumers.

“We plead with our customers to exercise patience while we strive to reduce the backlog.”
