By-law operations are conducted to maintain order and cleanliness in Tshwane,” said Mahamba.

The TMPD social crime prevention team also conducted school searches on Wednesday and found knives, cigarettes and hubbly bubbly among the learners.

The operation continued in East Lynne in the east of Pretoria on February 26 resulting in several spaza shops and other businesses being inspected and three illegal structures demolished.

Mahamba said in one illegal structure, officers discovered a box of dagga.

Confiscated drugs

“In total, 17 fines totalling R11 050 were issued to the traders for contravention of and noncompliance with the by-laws.

“The operation was later followed by a road operation where 187 Aarto infringement notices amounting to R108 000 were issued to motorists for noncompliance with the law,” said Mahamba.

The TMPD later arrested a 48-year-old caught with Mandrax, heroin and crystal meth worth R8 600 for possession of and dealing in drugs.

Mahamba said that the metro police were determined to ensure adherence to laws and enforced them without fear, favour or prejudice.
