Clubview suffers outage after cable theft

After the outage in the area was caused by a cable theft incident early on Wednesday morning, residents are requested to be on high alert and report any suspicious activity.

Residents of Clubview and the surrounding areas were left without power on Wednesday morning due to a cable theft incident.

Cables were damaged and stolen from an underground power line near Ashwood Drive near Zwartkop Country Club.

Ward 66 councillor Ina Strijdom confirmed the ongoing power outage in the area was due to cable theft.

She said the power was cut at about 01:00 on Wednesday.

“We had a cable theft incident in Ashwood Drive,” she said, confirming that Clubview and Zwartkop Golf Estate were still without power.

Strijdom said the incident had been reported to the relevant officials and the teams responsible for repairing the damaged cable were attending to the matter.

She said by Wednesday morning, there was no confirmation of how long it would take to repair the damaged cable and for power to be restored to affected residents.

Residents in parts of nearby neighbourhoods such as Eldoraigne and Wierdapark reported experiencing power outages on Tuesday night, but these outages were unrelated.

Strijdom said she was aware of an outage over a large area last night, but that it was likely due to a tripped switch at a substation.

Power to the areas affected by this outage was restored by Wednesday morning.
