Over 500 take part in ice bath challenge

The event provided attendees with not just a fun day out but a chance to support a worthy cause and make big bucks as well.

Locals took part in Experiences Matter’s Ice Plunge Challenge this past weekend at the Zwartkop Lapa in Centurion.

The event provided attendees with not just a fun day out but a chance to support a worthy cause and make big bucks as well.

The Ice Plunge Challenge allowed small business entrepreneurs to pitch their business ideas to Experience Matters for the chance of winning R50 000 to start their business.

Christo de Jager was the entrepreneur whose pitch won the judges and ultimately won.

The proceeds gathered from attendees were donated to Dancing For Rhinos, an NPO that advocates for rhino and wildlife conservation.

“You just need to come through and take a full submersion plunge in a bath full of ice for one minute. You can see by the faces of the people as they get in, it’s not an easy challenge, a few people got in and got out again and they changed their mind and went back,” said Experiences Matter CEO, Eugene van der Merwe.

Having 521 participants, the Ice Plunge Challenge broke the Guinness World Record for most participants in an ice bath challenge, the previous of which was 509.

“Guys it’s tough, every person that tells you, you can’t do it, don’t listen to them. Join a community that’s supportive, collaborative, that’s going to push you forward and the most important thing is to just start, just start and prove everyone wrong,” Van Der Merwe advised entrepreneurs.
