Metro police foil abduction of woman in Brooklyn

Inside the stolen car, TMPD found sets of number plates, five dummy bullets, and a firearm magazine.

Tshwane metro police (TMPD) rescued an abducted woman after a high speed chase in Brooklyn on March 23.

The TMPD cable theft unit, while performing its duties, heard a commotion in Hazelwood Street in the east of Pretoria.

Spokesperson Senior Superintendent Isaac Mahamba said when the members went to investigate they saw two men forcing a woman into a car.

“The TMPD members tried to stop the vehicle but it fled at high speed, and a chase ensued between the officers and the suspects,” Mahamba said.

He said the suspects eventually stopped, got out the vehicle and ran.

He added that the officers gave chase and managed to apprehend one suspect.

“The victim who was kidnapped confirmed to the officers that she was robbed her of her cellphone and forced to give up her banking details.”

The vehicle has been confirmed stolen in Mamelodi.

Mahamba said the number plates affixed to the vehicle did not correspond with the licence disc.

He said the kidnap victim also notified the officers that the suspects had thrown out a firearm through the window.

“Inside the vehicle, sets of number plates, five dummy bullets, and a firearm magazine were found.”

He said the suspects would face kidnapping, armed robbery, possession of unlawful ammunition, firearm magazine and possession of a stolen vehicle charges.

“The investigation is ongoing to apprehend the suspect still at large. Members of the public who might have any information regarding this incident can contact the nearest SAPS or TMPD at 012 358 7095.”
