East store manager swiftly contains kitchen fire

No injuries were reported on the scene and the fire was contained.

A store manager swiftly contained a fire at a local supermarket in Mooikloof on Monday evening.

The quick response resulted in no injuries reported after a blaze went up at Mooikloof SPAR.

According to non-profit paramedic service Volunteer Emergency Medical Response Unit (Vemru), the fire broke out in the kitchen of Mooikloof SPAR.

Vemru in a statement said the team received a call about a fire outbreak just after 19:00.

“Luckily, the store manager could keep his composure.

With the use of fire extinguishers and a fire hose reel, the store manager contained the fire to the kitchen and mostly extinguished it while the store was being evacuated.

No injuries were reported on the scene,” Vemru said.

All the other emergency services as well as private security companies reported to the scene to help out.

Tshwane emergency services spokesperson Deputy Chief Charles Mabaso said the emergency service arrived on the scene to find that the fire, which was said to have originated in a deep frying pan, was already extinguished.

He said firefighters only had to carry out positive pressure ventilation to rid the store of smoke.

He added that a fire safety officer has been assigned to conduct a fire cause determination.
Vemru offers free emergency response services to local communities and citizens regardless of age, race, gender, religion, medical aid coverage or financial status.
