Thatchfield school welcomes new executive head

The new executive head aims to work with parents and the broader community to create a supportive network around the learners.

The Curro Thatchfield school community has a new leader with Justin Choveaux taking up the role of school executive head.

Choveaux will head the four schools that make up Curro Thatchfield, to prioritise child-friendliness, care, and inclusivity across all levels of education.

He said that he would act as the custodian of the campus facilities and resources, ensuring that existing aspects are well-kept, and future developments are well-planned and implemented.

“I firmly believe in the power of education to transform lives and shape futures, and I am excited about the opportunity to lead this brilliant Curro offering towards new heights,” Choveaux told Rekord.

He isn’t new to the Centurion community, and he said that the people of Centurion have a warm and welcoming spirit.

“I have always felt so at home in this community.

“There’s a palpable sense of community cohesion, where individuals from diverse backgrounds come together to create a harmonious and inclusive area.”

He said that they show a genuine concern for the well-being of others with a culture of kindness, support, and a strong sense of empathy and compassion.

“I’ve been struck by the collective commitment of Centurion’s people to the greater good of the area.

From grassroots initiatives aimed at improving local amenities to collaborative efforts to address social challenges, there’s a shared sense of responsibility towards building a thriving and sustainable community for current and future generations.”

Choveaux describes himself as deeply passionate about education and community engagement, a combination that he is excited to bring to the school to cultivate a strong sense of community.

He has had various leadership roles at prestigious schools in Gauteng such as Pinnacle College Linden, Southdowns College, and Heronbridge College.

“My passion for working with children has been a guiding force throughout my career, and I am eager to channel this enthusiasm into my new role,” he said.

“I am truly honoured to be a part of the school community, and I look forward to working hand-in-hand with learners, parents, and educators to continue to create a nurturing environment where every individual can thrive and reach their full potential.”

He sees the fact that the campus comprises four schools to be an opportunity to cultivated an environment of child-friendliness, care, and inclusivity.

“I would like to establish a unified vision and culture that permeates through all four schools, emphasising values such as respect, empathy, and inclusivity.”

It is through the cohesive community that Choveaux says the goals can be achieved.

“I am going to encourage collaboration and interaction among learners, teachers, and staff from the different schools within the campus.”

As a starting point, Choveaux says that he wants to see comprehensive learner support services put in place, such as counselling , academic support, and promotion of mental health and well-being.

“I would also like to foster strong partnerships with parents and the broader community to create a supportive network around the learners.”

He said that educational leadership and excellence work hand in hand.

“Fostering excellence amongst learners is at the core of my mission.

It entails nurturing each and every learner’s potential, instilling a love for learning, creating an academic culture, and empowering learners to achieve their highest aspirations. When educational leadership and the pursuit of excellence converge, transformative opportunities emerge.

“[It’s] essential for creating a place where every learner has the opportunity to realise their full potential.

“I look forward to driving this on my beautiful Curro Thatchfield campus.”
