Police catch cable thieves red-handed

The suspects are facing charges of tampering with essential infrastructure and cable theft.

Lyttelton Police and the Tshwane metro cable theft unit arrested suspects for stealing cables behind the Bayview estate in Pierre van Ryneveld on Thursday, May 17.

Police spokesperson Warrant Officer Johan van Dyk said police responded to a report of suspicious activity around 02:30.

Van Dyk said police officers and private security companies fanned out and caught the suspects in the act of stealing cables.

He said the suspects were arrested after they attempted to flee.
