Mosimane visits his Mams academy for first time
Mosimane was excited about Rethabile Sports Facility’s refurbishment because the facility was in a bad state, abandoned, and vandalised for a long time.
Former Bafana Bafana and Mamelodi Sundowns coach Pitso Mosimane expressed satisfaction about the state of Rethabile Football grounds in Mamelodi East over the weekend.
Coach Mosimane was visiting his football club in Mamelodi, the Pitso Mosimane Football Club, for the first time on Sunday.
Mosimane was excited about the refurbishment of the Rethabile Sport facility because it had been in a bad condition – abandoned, and vandalised – for a long time.
“We have to thank local Ward 23 councillor Diamond Mashao for helping us find a sports facility earlier this year that will keep children safe, away from crime and drugs and a place where parents will always know where their children are at all times.”
He said his football academy has received lots of positive feedback from parents and the community, as the grounds were previously riddled with crime and drugs.
Rethabile Sports Facility was revamped by the Pitso Mosimane Foundation.
He said that due to the establishment of the academy, parents whose children participate in the activities of the academy now know where their kids are and what they are doing.
“Obviously, we want to bring more investment to the facility as much as we try to develop football,” he added.
“Anyone can join the club; our aim is to reduce crime through this academy,” he said.
Mosimane added that he appreciated the commitment and passion shown by the young lads who took part in the exhibition matches on Sunday, emphasising that football builds character, is a good lifestyle, and is good for their health.
The club is also part of the Pitso Mosimane Soccer Schools programme, in which “we put various qualified coaches at several schools to help the schools with physical education and the training of each school’s soccer teams. We also help Curro Foundation schools in this regard”.
“We have realised that lots of these soccer-loving learners play football at school but don’t have local teams that they play for on weekends.
Our coaches have been trained and have CAF and SAFA D coaching qualifications,” he said.
Mosimane said his football academy now has four teams in Gauteng: one in Mamelodi, in Boksburg, Roodepoort, and the other in Midrand.
He revealed that his school’s football academies have been in existence for only a month.
Mosimane urged parents to send their children to his soccer training camps during this winter school holiday to learn football skills and life skills such as discipline, good behaviour, and a correct diet for aspirant footballers.
Mashao said Rethabile football grounds had been abandoned for a long time and that he was grateful that Mosimane had refurbished the facility, which had become a hideout for criminals and drug addicts.
