16-year-old girl found dead in west of Pretoria

Police found that her shoes were not on her feet and she had suffered deep cuts.

Police are investigating a case where a 16-year-old girl was found deceased at the Vergenoeg Squatter camp in Atteridgeville last week.

Police spokesperson Warrant Officer Johan van Dyk said Atteridgeville law enforcement received a call regarding a dead body lying in the area on Sunday, August 4.

He said on arrival of law enforcement officers next to a supermarket, the Vergenoeg community members pointed to the deceased body of a female.

Van Dyk said police found that her shoes were not on her feet and she had suffered deep cuts.

“She had a deep laceration on her forehead,” said van Dyk, adding, “The deceased’s brother came and identified the victim.”

He said police had not arrested anyone, all leads were being investigated, and that a murder case had been opened.

Police are appealing to the public to come forward with any information to assist with arresting any suspects.
