Four-legged friends join owners for pilates at Piazza

Thirty dogs and their humans line up for an exercise class this weekend.

Regular shoppers at Irene Village Mall this weekend were greeted by Pups & Pilates on the Piazza and many exclaimed that they have rarely witnessed such a sight.

Thirty dogs and their humans lined up to be put through their paces, and much fun was had by all. Dogs, of course, would rather run than stretch but this group seemed quite the professional exercise class – as if this is something they do every day at home.

The centre’s marketing manager, Shevaughn Nankervis, said as it is a dog-friendly mall, this type of event creates awareness that people’s furkids were welcome.

Dalene Janneke told Rekord that though this was her first experience putting her dog through a pilates class, she looked forward to participating again: “I would love to attend every one of these events”.

Danlia Botha said, “I do pilates myself and found the dog aspect very cute, it works very nicely.” She also said that she would attend this event again.

The dogs behaved in public as if they had been doing this for a long time already. Here and there an enthusiastic doggie made sure the rest of them knew he was around, but all in all, they showed the world what dogs can do.
