Goo Goo Dolls postpone tour to South Africa

The band was set to perform this week but due to lead singer Rzeznik’s pneumonia diagnosis and hospitalisation on December 1, the tour will now be postponed to March 25-29, 2025.

Goo Goo Dolls lead singer John Rzeznik has been hospitalised which ultimately led to the postponement of the band’s South African December tour.

The Good Life Productions announced the unavoidable postponement of the Goo Goo Dolls’ South African tour, which was scheduled for December 4-7 after the lead singer was hospitalised.

The band was set to perform in Cape Town, Durban and iconic The Voortrekker Monument in Pretoria, but due to lead singer Rzeznik’s pneumonia diagnosis and hospitalisation on the evening of December 1, the tour will now be postponed to March 25-19 next year.

“Pneumonia is a serious condition, especially for a vocalist whose health and voice are central to their craft.

Performing while unwell could have lasting effects, so as fans of the Goo Goo Dolls, we fully support Rzeznik in prioritising his recovery,” said Good Life Productions in a statement.

In a heartfelt message, Rzeznik expressed his sorrow and gratitude.

“We are heartbroken to postpone our South African shows.
This country means so much to us and we were so excited to create more memories with you, sadly my doctor has advised rest and recovery,” he said.

Rzeznik expressed his appreciation to South African fans.

“Thank you for understanding, we will make it worth the wait when we return in 2025 March.”

Good Life Productions and AMP events said they understand how much anticipation and excitement has built up around these shows, especially at such iconic venues like Kirstenbosch Gardens and Vootrekker Monument.

“It is deeply regrettable for this postponement to happen so close to the event, knowing how many plans have already been made by fans, performers and organising teams alike,” said Good Life Productions and AMP events.

“However John’s health must come first and we are deeply grateful for understanding and kindness from the fans during this time.

The band remains committed to delivering the unforgettable experience you have been waiting for, and we can’t wait to welcome them back to South Africa in March next year.

The postponement is not just a delay – it is a reflection of the commitment of Goo Goo Dolls to their fans and their craft.

All tickets will remain valid for the rescheduled dates, and ticket holders will receive clear instructions on how to confirm their attendance or request a refund.”

New dates for the March 2025 Tour:
March 25 – Durban
March 27 – Pretoria Voortrekker Monument.
