Downs women Majiya and Dlamini nominated for prestigious CAF awards
The Sundowns Ladies team have also been nominated for the Club of the Year award.
Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies’ Nthabiseng Majiya and Andile Dlamini have both received nominations in various categories for the upcoming Confederation of African Football (CAF) Awards.
The awards, which celebrate excellence in African football, cover performances from January to October this year, showcasing the talent emerging from the continent. The Confédération Africaine de Football (“CAF”) is scheduled on December 16, 2024 in Marrakech, Morocco.
Majiya, who has made a remarkable impact since joining the Brazilian ladies, has been nominated for the Young Player of the Year award.
With a tally of 14 goals in the Hollywoodbets Super League this season, her nomination reflects her hard work and dedication on the field.
Majiya stated that she is very excited to be nominated.
“It is a significant achievement to be recognised for such an honour.”
She said football is a team sport, and she would not have achieved this without the support of her coaches, teammates and family.
“Being nominated motivates me to push even harder, not just for myself but for my teammates and everyone who supports me.
“This nomination also inspires other kids to believe in themselves and work hard to achieve their dreams,” added Majiya.
Dlamini on the other hand has been nominated for the Goalkeeper of the Year award.
She has been a cornerstone of the Sundowns Ladies squad, earning accolades for her significant contributions to her team’s success.
“In all honesty, I am grateful to be nominated,” said Dlamini.
“I am inspired every day to do more because, as an African and a South African, I have a huge responsibility to inspire the next generation.”
She said the nomination is motivation to keep going and to continue striving for excellence, both on and off the field.
Dlamini’s influence extends beyond her performance on the pitch; she recently served as one of the draw assistants for the TotalEnergies CAF Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) Morocco 2024.
The tournament, set to take place from July 5 to 26, 2025, will see 12 of Africa’s top national teams competing for continental glory.
Adding to Majiya and Dlamini’s individual accolades, the Sundowns Ladies team is also in the running for the Club of the Year award, solidifying their status as one of the continent’s elite teams.
