Tshwane greenlights Eersterust upliftment precinct

An application to register a Community Upliftment Programme, has been approved by the metro for Eersterust and the community is raring to put the plan submitted to action.

The Eersterust Community Development Forum announced a historic victory for the community on December 6, when the metro officially approved its community upliftment precinct application.

“This monumental milestone empowers us, the Eersterust community, to work in public spaces and implement vital upliftment activities, ensuring a cleaner, safer and more vibrant environment for all,” said Arnold Adams, co-ordinator of the forum.

He said the initiative is a vision realised for Ward 43. To him, the approval marks the beginning of a brighter future for Eersterust.

“It is a momentous achievement for residents to work as a united community to uplift and transform shared spaces.

The initiative represents the collective aspirations of Eersterust residents to take charge of their surroundings and drive meaningful change. With this approval, we now have the authority to perform a wide range of operations in public spaces, including cleaning parks, sidewalks, and open areas as well as grass cutting and landscaping to enhance aesthetics,” said Adams.

He added that broken infrastructure, such as benches and playground equipment, can also per agreement with the metro, be repaired and beautification projects such as the planting of trees, flowers and public art can begin.

Adams is excited about the possibility of organising community gardens to foster sustainability and unity as well as forthcoming community safety patrols and crime awareness campaigns.

“Though this is a significant achievement, it cannot succeed without the support and dedication of our community members, volunteers and local partners. The commitment of residents to making Eersterust a better place to live will be the cornerstone of our success,” said Adams.

He extended the team’s gratitude to the metro for recognising the importance of this initiative and for granting them the authority to act as stewards of Eersterust public spaces.

“Special thanks go to the city’s Region 6 representatives, including the regional head, Persia Sekati, and the various metro departments, for their collaboration and guidance throughout the application process.”

He added that with the approval in hand, the forum will begin implementing the operational plan outlined in the application.

“Activities will commence immediately, focusing on high-priority areas, expanding across all 23 blocks of Ward 43 in the coming months. Community members are encouraged to join hands with us in this transformative journey. Whether you’re volunteering for a clean-up drive, planting a tree or sharing your ideas for improvement, your contribution matters. Together we can create a sustainable and thriving Eersterust.”

He invited residents to reach out to the forum for any question, suggestion or offers of support at erustcommunitydevelopmentforum@gmail.com or on 062 443 4273.
