CPF offer safety advice following recent Moreleta Park burglaries
Residents are cautioned to be careful during the holidays, especially if they are going away.
Residents in the east of Pretoria are being cautioned to ensure that their homes are safeguarded this festive period after a spree of house break-ins in Moreleta Park today (December 17).
According to social media reports, three houses in Hoyt Crescent in Moreleta Park were burgled in the early hours of Tuesday.
It is believed that the houses were robbed by the same people.
A suspect was caught on camera at one of the houses, helping himself to some items.
In the video circulating on social media, the man can be seen ransacking a home on Hoyt Crescent until he escapes through the window.
Residents are advised to immediately contact the police should they see the man shown in the video. In the footage, it seems the man has a bruised eye.
Housebreaking victim Garry Robinson said the incident happened between 01:45 and 02:30.
He said the suspect allegedly invaded three houses at Hoyt Crescent.
“The man entered our yard and stole stuff and alcohol at our lapa. He got into the house and stole a laptop, but my wife saw him and we tried to scare him. However, he escaped.”
Robinson believed all the break-ins were related and the same man who entered their house had also done so at his neighbours in the same street.
Should residents see or bump into that guy, they should call the police immediately.
Rekord contacted the police about the incident but a response was not received by the time of publication.

Garsfontein CPF has offered some safety tips to safeguard your home this festive season.
CPF chairperson Aris Ruyter said people often let their guard down during the festive season as it is a time for relaxation and making memories, which allows chancers to steal.
He said residents should prioritise their safety when travelling to holiday destinations.
Here are helpful tips to ensure a worry-free holiday:
Secure your home before you go
– Lock up: Double-check that all doors, windows and gates are locked before you leave.
– Lights and timers: Use timers to turn lights on and off, creating the appearance that someone is home.
– Notify the estate or house association: Inform security of your travel dates so they can keep an eye on your property.
Avoid sharing too much online
– Delay social media updates: Avoid posting your travel plans or current location until after your trip.
– Check privacy settings: Ensure your social media accounts are set to private.
Have a plan for emergencies
– Know local numbers: Save the contact details of local emergency and security services.
– Stay connected: Let a trusted friend or neighbour know your itinerary and how to reach you in case of emergency.
