Bronkhorstspruit water plant offline due to quality concerns
The metro says water tankers will be deployed to all areas affected by the shutdown of the water treatment plant.
The deteriorated raw water quality at the Bronkhorstspruit Water Treatment Plant has sparked a temporary shutdown of the facility this week.
Tshwane Metro announced on Wednesday, December 18, that the treatment plant is temporarily not operating, and water supply would be interrupted in various areas around Bronkhorstspruit.
Spokesperson Lindela Mashigo said the treatment plant is temporarily offline due to deteriorated raw water quality, characterised by cloudiness caused by recent heavy rainfall.
“Our technicians are closely monitoring the situation and the plant will resume operations as soon as the water quality improves,” Mashigo said.
The following areas in Region 7 are affected:
• Bronkhorstspruit Town
• Ekandustria
• Ekangala
• Rethabiseng
• Riamarpark
• Zithobeni
• Thembisile Hani Local Municipality (cross-border water supply)
Mashigo said roaming water tankers would be arranged for all the affected areas.
“The city apologises profusely for the inconvenience that may be encountered as a result of this temporary shutdown.”
