Inspiring young Beandri Booysen dies

The beloved and inspiring young Beandri Booysen (19) from Doornpoort, Pretoria, who had Progeria, died on Wednesday afternoon.

In a shocking turn of events, the beloved young Beandri Booysen (19), who had Progeria, died on Wednesday afternoon.

Her mother earlier asked for prayers as Beandri’s heart had stopped working, and medics were trying to resuscitate her.

She was born on 20 November 2005 and was diagnosed with Progeria in 2006, a rare genetic condition causing rapid aging and limiting life expectancy.

Despite her small stature and old-age symptoms, Beandri recently turned 19.

Her family shared the tragic news in a statement on Wednesday evening and kindly requested privacy during this profoundly difficult time as they mourn the loss of their beloved Beandri.

They also said further details regarding the memorial service will be shared in due course.

“It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Beandri Booysen, one of South Africa’s most beloved and inspiring young women.

“Beandri was not only known for her vibrant personality and infectious laugh but also as the last surviving individual in South Africa living with Progeria – a rare genetic condition that causes children to age prematurely.”

The family said despite the challenges she faced, Beandri radiated hope and joy.

” She became a symbol of awareness for Progeria and other special needs, using her unique spirit to inspire thousands of people worldwide.”

In October this year, Beandri underwent a life-saving open-heart surgery.

“Beandri, who lives in Doornpoort, Pretoria, is beloved by her 269.2K TikTok followers and whose videos have garnered over 372K likes.

“She has been diagnosed with aortic stenosis – a condition where her aortic valve is dangerously obstructed, limiting blood flow from her heart. To make matters worse, calcification in her aorta is adding further complications,” a post on her back a buddy account reads.
