Festive wishes from north ward councillors
The ward councillors each give a report on the past year and like to wish their residents a merry Christmas and a safe festive season.
As the festive approaches, ward councillors in the north of Pretoria are extending their warm wishes to the residents for a safe and joyous holiday period.
Reflecting on the challenges and triumphs of the past year, they acknowledge the resilience and unity displayed by the community amid various trials.
From navigating the impacts of service delivery issues to celebrating local successes, the councillors emphasised the importance of coming together during this special time. They encourage residents to embrace the spirit of the season by prioritising safety and supporting local businesses.
With the holidays just around the corner, the councillors hope for a peaceful and festive atmosphere that brings joy to all.
Ward 50 councillor Lenise Breytenbach said residents must reaffirm their focus on the three enduring virtues: love, faith and hope as they look to 2025.
“As we reflect on the challenges of the past year, I want to express my deepest gratitude for your resilience, determination and community spirit.
Despite the obstacles we’ve faced together – from water pipe sabotage to electricity failures, and maintenance issues – you’ve remained steadfast,” said Breytenbach.
She said ward members have shown compassion and care for one another, and that’s what makes Ward 50 strong.
“We trust in God’s guidance and provision, knowing He is our rock in times of uncertainty. We look forward to a brighter future, where our community thrives, and our challenges become opportunities.
In 2025, let’s take ownership of our community’s cleanliness (parks, sidewalks, and public spaces), stand together against illegal businesses and squatters, support local initiatives and businesses and foster a culture of volunteerism and community service.”
She thanked residents for their tireless efforts, unwavering support and unrelenting spirit.
Ward 2 councillor Quentin Meyer who was elected as Pretoria North councillor on April 24 said it’s been a year of hard work for him and he appreciated the efforts of all those who stood by him since his appointment.
“This year wasn’t easy for my ward as we battled and faced so many challenges ranging from water leaks, power outages, illegal dumping and cable theft, just to mention a few.
We haven’t achieved our target yet as there’s still more work to be done but a lot has been done, you can see the change in the area a little bit.
I’m very excited for next year, we are going to work very hard, focus on services and more community work for our people as they deserve a better environment,” said Meyer.
Meyer wished Ward 2 residents a blessed festive season.
“Look after each other, be safe and never lose hope. Residents must believe in their dreams and themselves so that we can take Pretoria North to where it was before.”
Gé Breytenbach of Ward 96 said despite the challenges faced by his ward, he is proud of how the ward has come together.
“As we approach the end of 2024, I want to take a moment to reflect on both the challenges and the resilience we’ve shown as a community.
This year has tested us in many ways, from the unfortunate fire at the Pyramid Substation in October that disrupted electricity services to ongoing power outages, water shortages and other challenges that have affected our daily lives,” he said.
He said many residents have shown patience, understanding, and an unwavering commitment to support one another.
“Whether it was helping a neighbour in need or working with local authorities to find solutions, your resilience has been inspiring.
As we look ahead to the festive season, let us remember that while the year has not been without its hardships, it has also been a year of community, strength, and hope. Let’s continue to care for each other, especially during this time and embrace the spirit of unity that defines us as a ward,” Breytenbach said.
“May this festive season bring peace, joy and a well-deserved rest to residents.
“I encourage everyone to spend time with family, cherish their loved ones and find moments of happiness despite the challenges.
“We remain committed to addressing the issues of power and water, and I will continue to advocate for solutions in the coming year.”
