Residents are still advised to be cautious, particularly when approaching low-lying bridges, and to drive safely.

Pretoria residents can expect a possible wet and gloomy festive season, with the South African Weather Service forecasting rain until Wednesday, December 25.

Weather forecaster Lehlohonolo Thobela said Tshwane may experience rain from Sunday, December 22, with showers expected in the afternoon, particularly between 17:00 and 20:00.

“There is a 50% chance of showers and thundershowers for Sunday afternoon,” Thobela said.

For Monday, Thobela forecasts a 60% chance of showers and thundershowers over most parts of Pretoria, with most of the rain expected in the morning.

“It will still be cloudy with a bit of showers in the late morning and early afternoon, and we may have a significant amount of rain late in the afternoon,” Thobela explained.

“On Tuesday we may have on-and-off rain throughout the day into the evening.”

He predicted that on Wednesday most of the rain would be in the morning.

“It will still be cloudy with possible showers in late morning and early afternoon. We may have a significant amount of rain late in the afternoon.”

Tshwane emergency services spokesperson Lindsay Mnguni said that no flooding incidents were reported on Saturday night, but urged locals to “be cautious, particularly when approaching low-lying bridges, and to drive safely.”
